Each point has two screws. One screw locks the point down and the other is on a cam which moves the point. If I remember right the point gap is best at 0.016"

I have attached the tuneup manual as a pdf for the 56-7 Corvette below.

PS - One added thought, if your dist housing is aluminum, then you have a Mallory aftermarket distributor. Prestolite is the mother company of Mallory.

Seems like if you're going to use a non correct distributor, you'd want to use an electronic/HEI distributor w/a vacuum advance.
