One little trick I learned when doing a search for anything is put a plus sign in front and a minus sign at the end of anything I am searching for it eliminates a lot of crap...example... +buick engines- in google or whatever you search engine is try it... it cuts a lot of the crap out

Try using + in between words. Or " " around words

Learn about RSS feeds and newsreaders. Very easy stuff, about as easy as sending email.

You can subscribe to the "feed" for a website, and then you only get notified when there's new information on that site. That way, you can easily stay updated on 100+ websites.

You can also set up feeds that search for certain keywords.

This particular thread came from a posting in the Make blog, at http://www.makezine.com/blog.
