DIY rebuild

okay everyone here it goes,

I came into possession of a 200-4r tranny (freebie) that has no reverse that i want to put behind a 327 SBC. I called a couple of tranny shops in the area and asked what the price would be to rebuild it and get a range fro 450-800 parts and new converter. Even if i tell them i will supply parts because i want to harden up the trans, they still want almost the same price to rebuild the tranny with the parts i will supply which does not make sense to me. Now i am in my DIY mode to cut them out and put what i want in the tranny. I have purchased a Haynes manual and feel confident that i can do it myself because of the step by step instructions they provide on doing the rebuild. Should i do it or just bite the bullet and hope the trans shop puts in the parts i give them?

thanks everyone for your help
