diy sheetmetal intake

Hey guys I have another question. I have decided to try my hand at building my own custom sheetmetal intake manifold. I have no doubt that I have the skills to fabricate this thing, but I have no idea on how to design it properly. Does anyone know where I could get info on intake manifold design and calculations?

re: diy sheetmetal intake

Most intake manufacturers have some design philosophy in their catalogs and probably website. The hardest would be a 180* manifold of course, but can be done if there is plenty of room upward or outward (since you are casting packaging is a little harder). There are some sites on intake length to rpm range(run a search engine check), a simple rule is the longer the tract the more torque generated, the shorter, the more upper end power you'll get.

re: diy sheetmetal intake

Update: I came across an article where this guy built a cross-ram (or cross-fire for the younger guys).I liked the design because it allows for good hood clearance but operates like a tunnel ram. I'm thinking about making one to use with duel throttle bodies and a Mega-Squirt computer. This will be for my 427.
Anyone have any thoughts?
