Why would this be a problem.......? As long as they seal the hole, I don't see a problem. Use whatever you can get....Brass may last longer, but the steel will probably outlast the engine. |

Pioneer Barnes, Dorman, US Tool, are 3 suppliers of cup plugs.
Could look it up on Monday if need be. Also see you live in Las Vegas(pretty big city) if you cant find a machine shop there that can come up with correct part number I dont know what to do. Is this a small block Ford? |

Dorman (Motormite) part #565-028 (deep 1-1/2"), 565-077 (shallow 1-1/2"), both brass plug numbers.

If you are concerned about rust you could scuff and paint the freeze plug (inside and out) with engine enamel - just make sure you wipe any paint off the "sides" of the plug before you pound it in.

What the problem is; There's a reason why those head freeze plug are deep set. Other wise they would have put in the shallow ones. There's a reason for everything in this world. That's why? I don't mean to be short with you. I'm just kinda talkin' to myself and sharing it with. Thank you for your impute GOD BLESS Schooner |

re: DO THEY MAKE "CYLINDER HEAD BRASS FREEZE PLUGS ?
All 289 and 302 had the shallow plugs in there from factory. When you put them in be sure to get them past the little chamfered area. If one pups out that wont be too good for your engine.
I used to put the deep ones in because thats all I was given to use (didnt know any better either), theres still room for water to flow inside. The deep plugs will not come out easy like the shallow ones did. Now I would want to do it right find the shallow cup plugs. |

Hey Greg
Thanks for you impute.
I replaced the steel freeze plugs with; BRASS ONES. And yes I did bang 'em in pass the champed part around the openning. However, what I'm talking about is: Replacing those darn Cyliinder Head Steel Plugs with BRASS ONE. These C/H/Plugs have an 7/16" rim around them and the plug sits into the head deeply. Not like the ones on the block. My problem is I want to replace those suckers with: BRASS ONES. But I haven't found the DEEP SET BRASS ONES WITH THE 7/16ths. in. rim that go deep into the heads. My search continues, help if you can in locating a supplier that has those darn Brass Head Plugs. Thanks GOD BLESS Schooner |
