Do you own a 68 corvette???

I am looking for someone that owns a 68 corvette..

I am building a engine for a 68 corvette but i do not have the car to look at.. It is in denmark!!!...and i have a few questions...

1. will a tall aluminum valve cover on a small block chevy clear the power brake booster???

2. Is any part of the front suspension close to the harmonic balancer??? If so what diameter balancer is needed to clear it????

3. what kind of room is there around the bottom pan??? Is there any cross members etc to interfear with the pan???

Keith

Keith... sorry dont own one but have worked on a few... My take on it...

Yes you can use tall covers on the SBC but not with a BBC... But some may still hit the firewall...?

They came with either the 327 or 427 which both had the smaller 6 1/4 balancer but dont remember the sway bar being that close...

Has to be a corvette pan this I know for sure... Truck pans have to deep of a sump and slope to it... I have a brand new (from GM) 6qt. gated pan for a vette just sitting...

Also to be sure of all this you might want to take a run over to a Corvette site...? (Denmark...! WOW...!) Are you getting a windmill in trade...?

I have a 79 Vette and as far as I know all C3s sit on the same frame. Being said; I can give info. There is no crossmember under the engine on a Vette it's under the balancer and pullies. The steering center link and ram are the only things under the pan. The motor mounts sit on two horns welded to the frame. There is plenty of room for any size balancer. It sits over the cross member and there is a indent in it for balancer and pullies. Tall covers fit except with drivers side mounted alternator. Since Vettes have short pumps the alternator sits over the cover. With a tall cover you have to remove it to change belts, or take the alternator completey off.

If you are building a 400 sb some holes in the block need to be drilled and tapped. 400 sbs do not have a starter hole for inline starters. So unless you drill a hole and tap it a mini-starter is out of the question. Also, on some 400s there are no holes for the power steering pump on the front of the block.
