dodge avenger timing belt replacement

Hey all,

I'm working on a '95 dodge avenger with a dohc 2.0 engine. I'm trying to get the timing belt cover off and having a little trouble with that. Also, when i replace the belt, how do i line up the cam gears in reference to the crank gear? thanks

cover

you amy have to remove a motor mount I am not sure long time since doing this engine. also while in there best to do a water pump. to line them up bring #1 to tdc and find marks, if none take a marker and mark the gears and the belts then mark your new belt with the same marks as the old belt and that can be used as timing marks , it also ensures you have the belt on correctly. but for the cover should be just a bunch of small bolts around the perimiter of the cover. good luck
Jesse

if it's anything like everything else these days, you can count on it. don't try to NOT do it, it'll just make you more work, and when you do drop the motor mount, and it comes apart like it is supposed too, you'll cuss and think to yourself 'wth didn't i do that in the first place?'

any idea how many timing cover bolts there are on a 96 pontiac 2.4l I4?

twenty freakin' eight.

Unhappy

I jacked up the motor a bit, and unbolted the mount from the motor and the frame, and the bolts that go into the motor that hold on the motor mount are too long to pull out........it almost looks as if youd have to pull the motor to get the timing cover off. I guess im going to order a book from advance auto or something because im going to need it i see. Any other ideas to how to get that motor mount out would be really appreciated. Thanks for the replies guys.

Ben

Larry: not too sure on how many bolts are on the 2.4 I4.....i was thinking 12 but i could be wrong.

there's twenty freakin' eight of them muthas.

the book will be a huge help.

the motor mount bolt may not necessarily come all the way out, just usually needs to be loosened so you can manipulate the motor around to get to everything......

i have a friend who drives a stratus, man, that sob is packed in there. told her she was sol on anything short of an air filter..... at least from me.....
