Dodge Dana 60 front hub conversion
I have a 2002 dodge ram 2500 with a Dana 60 front axle.
As some of you may know these trucks came with solid unit-bearing hubs which means you cannot disconnect the axles when in 2wd, older models had a vacuum operated disconnect in the differential, but for some odd reason this was not offered in 2002. this means that whether your in 2 or 4wd, the axles, diff and front driveshaft are spinning.
I have looked around to find kits to convert to a selectible hub with sevicable bearings but the kits i find are between $1000 and $2000 which is what ill have to pay if it comes down to it.
My question is, is there any way to convert my front end to use selectible hubs and servicable bearings using replacement parts from an older model Dana 60? everything would have to bolt onto the factory knuckles and i would also need the proper length stubshafts.
I noticed that the kits all include things like chrommoly stubshafts and billit components, which would make the price skyrocket but im pretty sure i dont need stuff that strong.
