Some of you might remember the photo the Draglink had of his buddy's ride, the "Cholopy?"
I have been quite smitten with that concept. The rat rod. I see it as a combination of Monster Garage and Amature Hour. I also posted once about this thing called the "$2003" challenge. You build an entire ride for $2003, tops!
Well, (God, save me from my wife) I just came back from the plant after shaking a mans hand to close a deal.
This Saturday, I am going over to his house and we are going out in the back yard, behind the tree line, next to the old barn, under the lean to and bring forth the beginning of my divorc...my newset and most out there project. I have just agreed to purchase the entire running and drivable chassis from a 1939 Dodge 4 dr sedan.

Facts: 83 horse cast iron in-line six, 3 speed manual tranny, 16" whide whites,115 wheel base, and vaccuum wolf whistle. This is not junk in any sense of the imagination. He drove it out there. It has a plywood and vinyl outdoor lawnchair seat and a hunk of 4X4 holding up the steering column. Radiator is still hooked up and has a gallon milk jug gas tank. He said he was waiting for some idio...man of vision to come along and see the worth in this fine speciman of early Americana.

Do I know ANYTHING about this motor? No
Do I kow anything about ANY part of this chassis? Hell, no
Do I know what I'm doing? I have faith,confidence, and Jack Daniels on my side.

I found an old notebook in my desk, which I will use to keep the details of this build. I had the cash for the chassis (basically I bought the wheels and tires and he threw in the rest), so I know now that I have $1803 left. I will take the first photo Saturday, just where it sits. (The rest will come from the doghouse I will be living in after mama finds out. I'm looking for some type of biblical referance to support me when I go home tonight)

ANYHOW, if anybody out there in TV/Monitor land knows anything about this drivetrain, lay it on me! Before the swap, he drove the car to work a few times and the old boat would scoot.

What can I say, some save the whales, some protect wildlife, I am an automotive recycler.

Sounds cool man. You start out with a frame and drive train and I buy a body with no drive train. When you confront the wife protect the N*** as she may try and remove them from your possesion. GOOD LUCK MAN! How long do you think you can keep the puchase from her?

Madd, and now I know you are, My book says you must be wrong on your stats, 1939 Dodge- both DeLuxe and Special- 117"wb- 217.0 cu.in.-6.5 compression- hp 87@3600- torque 166@1200- oil pressure 45@30mph Tune-up specs- plugs .025 -points .020 - firing order 153624 -timing mark and location "0" mark on vibration damper - and the battery is POSITIVE gnd. If you need any more info let me know.

Madd I wish I could say your wife will not mind the new project but then again if she is anything like my wife watch out.
Take her out to a really nice dinner and buy her something nice as well then break the news to her after pouring about 5 or 6 bottles of wine in her. then she will not mind a bit.
so just what are the plans to this monster garage/Amature Hour thing you are undertaking?

I almost fell victim to a similar scam. A coworker offered me a '29 Dodge coupe body on a '30 Nash frame for free.......... I was too smart for him though. I claimed my wife would kill me and I beat a hasty retreat.

She's not real crazy about the Grand Prix I brought home for the youngest son's first car and it runs, drives and is a decent 10 footer. Imagine her "glee" if I drug home a rusty old shell with no top in it, no glass, no interior, no floor and no motor or trans.

Still though, cover it in black primer, make a plywood top and it had been set up for a Pinto front end............... drop in a junk yard 60 Degree V-6 out of an old S-10 or Camaro............... big 'n' little steelies with Moon discs................ DAMN I shouldn't have given away those Accord bucket seats...........

Hmmmm, maybe I better get the V-8 Lumina project done first......................
