Does It Matter

Does it matter what kind of dipstick I purchase for my car, or does it have to be the exact same one?

I have a 2002 Nissan Sentra. I don't feel like purchasing the exact same dipstick; it will probably break again. So I can I just pick up any dipstick?

Thanks!

You need the specific one for your car and engine or it will not read right.

Take your old one to the junk yard, look around and see if you can find one that is about the same size, diameter-wise (that will fit into your tube). If you have your car filled with the proper level of oil, stick the new stick in and mark the full line with a file or die grinder.

You could transfer the markings off your old stick to the new one also, or cut off any extra length. There's more than one way to skin a cat.......
