Ok, I am a Honda and import enthusiast, but I am trying to broaden my horizons and learn about displacement and the mysterious thing called torque
Are there any good websites that break hot rodding (ie tips, tricks, history, etc.) down into an easy to understand format? I try to be as open minded as possible, and domestics intrigue me a lot. Thanks, Jessica

Jessica you won't be hated, you have the right attitude and open mind, just be carful, open minds can get dirty and ou lose things in there
Try this site out for helpful exsplanations and how to's. All these folks would be happy to answer your questions, and the site also has a pretty cool knowledge base. If you look back in the past posts almost every question has been asked at least once. If you need more help, feel free to ask, you won't learn nuthin' if you don't ask questions HK |

Aww, thanks you guys. I admit, I was a leetle intimidated when I saw the avatar for a "rice burner" Kind of had me a little worried, if you know what I mean. And for the record, the little lights on your valve stems are effing stupid. lol. Thanks again, and I definitely think I will stick around for a little while.

I honestly thought that was a import thing? I myself dislike it, looks tacky. This is a hot rod board and alot of folks have strong feelings, but your welcome to stay, we have some fun
Jon! move this I can't HK |

This site is definitly worth sticking around for.
I agree with HK, you have the right attitude. If only more people out there had the same attitude as you. Welcome to what hotrodding is about! ~Michael "One by one, the penguins are stealing my sanity" |

To get to your question. In an engine the piston moves from top to bottom dead center. The volume of the cylinder from these two points is the displacment of of one cylinder. The Displacement of the engine is this number times the number of cylinders.
Torque is twisting or turning force. Can also be described as the force of rotation. It is basic physics. The piston and rod push down on the crankshaft rod journal at an offset of center. This causes linear force to be transformed to rotating force or torque. The amount of torque is dependant on the force with which the piston, through the rod, exerts on the crankshaft. This force is changed by the amount of offset the rod journal is from center, know as the stroke of the engine, and the amount of energy produced by fuel combustion on top of the piston. Hope this helps. chris [ November 13, 2002: Message edited by: TurboS10 ]
|

Welcome Jessica, or should we call you Pook? Anyway all you have heard is true, hotrodding is more than a brand specific thing it is an attitude. We welcome any open minded person into the flock here as long as your just a little nutty and more than a little devoted, stick to cars and you have lots of fun. :p
If you have any specific questions please feel free to post you own topics and remember the only dumb question is the one not asked. We wouldn't want you changing spark plugs not knowing the difference between taper seat and gasketed would we?!
