Don't miss the scratch builder's journal.

Ccrodder is a master of scratch building in my book and the guy I've most tried to emulate in my own scratch building efforts. In other words, I've made a practice of stealing every great idea and technique from him that I possibly can.

After a fairly long absence he is back here on HR.Com posting up some of his work in his journal.

Ccrodder scratch built my pickup:

HIS pickup:

And a slew of other rods like this roadster:

He also does more traditional rods (not scratch built) like this '47 Packard (and his own painting BTW):

So even if you are not particularly a scratch build enthusiast, check out his journal. Hopefully he will be adding even more pics to show his talents and techniques. And for those even considering a scratch build, this is the guy you want to pay attention to. As I've often said...his work would be right at home among the Riddler competition OR in the middle of a major art museum. He just builds beautiful stuff.

Another issue is time to build..if a guy starts with a decent repro he can have a running car fairly quickly..While the guy scratch building or restoring is still working on his..Not to say some of the guys building repro cars are not taking quite a while to do it..but a good quality repro chassis and body does not take as long to assemble and get running as it does when all the pieces need to be fabricated or replaced.

Good point Sam...and it might make sense to post up something similar in this thread that is discussing the repro vs stock tin vs scratch built differences.

And thanks to scr8pin for the kudos, but the ONLY area where I fabricate better than Ccrodder is that I'm retired and have the time to build a bigger JOURNAL.
