door glass 48 chevy areosedan

I am trying to put my door glass in, but i have run into a problem, the part that holds the glass has an L shape on the one end, does that ride inside the channel all the way up and down. These parts were off the car when i got it.Thanks for any help, as im lost. I have put this on so many forums, and no one has helped me yet.I have added a photo, this is the drivers side.
The L part im talking about is that short section on the left end.

Yes, it does slide up and down in the channel. It helps keep the glass from tilting in the channel. I didn't use it on my '41. I just made the glass 3" deeper in the channel. I have power windows, didn't use the original hardware.
