Door handle

Can anyone tell me how to remove the push button/lock latch from the exterior door handle of a '51 Chevy? I have inherited a basket case of parts and car. Thanks

I don't have the answer but be patient it was sunday and often the thread is slow on sunday. If you just inherited this car and plan on keeping it I highly recommend an assembly manual, they come in VERY handy.

here's a little bit I found doing a Google. http://www.ebay.com/itm/49-50-51-52-...sories&vxp=mtr

Here's a picture of a handle that's broke down for parts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-1950-19...sories&vxp=mtr

It appears that there are snap rings holding the Knob in, this should be the same process as yours with a key lock built into the knob. Hope this helps.

A little more searching with the same dealer found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-1950-19...item46029dffc2

Thanks guys,
I have seen the exploded diagram in one of the manuals, and I think e-bay. I usually find that after I look at the parts and all diagrams I can find that I figure it out. Some of the new clips etc. that you buy for chrome strips and handle are very foreign to the originals and they come in a bag with absolutely no indication as to how they work. If I stare at them long enough and position them every way possible I can sometimes translate them into how they work. I'll keep watching for others' experiences.

just looked at mine..looks like a simple c clip, and then a small disc to hold the spring? I've had it apart, I put locks on both handles...it was easy..
