I can't figure out how the roller coaster looking spring goes in the door handle on my deuce. It goes in the triangle shaped piece that the handle attaches too but I just don't know how. It's supposed to be the right spring but who knows.Any help would be appreciated. I've got a headache from trying to figure it out.

In the triangle with the link that mounts to the door is a square shaft to which the inside door handle mounts. On the back side of the triangle is the actuator plate which attaches to the link which goes rearward to the latch assembly at the edge of the door. The actuator plate pivots in a housing which has 4 bent ears retaining it to the plate. In the side of this housing are two slots (one on each side). You will notice that the actuator plate has a "roller coaster" with two vallies, one small, one larger. The straight end of the spring with dogleg in it goes through the slot on the side of the plate housing from the inside. Now, here's the catch. Hopefully you have your latch with spring on the other side. This will tell you which way is opposite from the spring you are installing. Install yours correctly and "BINGO" no more sagging outside handle. This true for all Fords from 32-up and some earlier (mostly 30-31 Fordors).
I love technology.

Neither door had a spring left.So I had nothing to go by.There is a slot on each side of the piece.Does both ends fit in the slots? Mine won't.I can see how it would work but I can't figure out how it would stay in there. Thanks for your response...Lash <img src="graemlins/drunk.gif" border="0" alt="[drunk]" />
