Door Latch
G'Day,
My name is Dennis. I'm in the process of finishing a '77 Chevy Nova, 305 V-8, two door coupe. My problem is the door latch unit. I had taken it out of thr door to clean and re-lub it. well I didn't have it fully tightened down and the door closed on me. Now I can't open the door. I acts like it's locked. Can't get latch to unlock/open. Any suggestions on getting the door open so I can finish while I still have a little sanity (I think) left? Thanks, Den

Can you get into the door....is the panel off?

You should be able to reach in and feel where the door latch is and the door latch bar / striker is, there should be a bar that is hanging on it about 1/8th" round and it is what connects to you door handle mech. / handle, it is what releases the door latch. It should move forward and back this will unlock the latch, if it is cable style then pull up on the cable and it will unlatch. If you have the full latch system out of the door and the door closed on the striker bar you will need to gently lift or push down on the door while pulling it open and the door should open, it maybe caught on the striker bar.
