door panel clips pop out (au-ve-co 11406)

I am putting door panels on in my '39. I bought 1/8" Luan (finishing plywood), and these Au-ve-co 11406 clips. The box says 1/2 in. head diameter 1/4 in. hole size.

I drilled 1/4" holes, and started putting them in. When I get a couple in they pop right out. I cut the board so it bends easy from top to bottom.

What am I doing wrong? Are the clips to short for 1/8" Luan?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Brian

Sounds like you have drilled your holes to big, this is why they pop back out. i would drill a smaller hole and then try them.

If the hole calls for 1/4" and the clip is 1/2" then the clip should hold. Look at the pic I attached. Measure this distance. If it is less than the masonite thickness plus the sheetmetal thickness then the clip will pop back out. the sheetmetal and masonite has to have a combined thickness to allow the high part of the clip to pass thru the two. See other attached pic. If it does not pass all of the way thru it will leave the clip in a squeezed position and allow it to pop back out. It would have to be in the position of the last sketch to engage properly. You will have to double check the hole size also to make sure it is not in an already squeezed position when you insert it into the sheetmetal. I would get a scrap piece of masonite and a scrap piece of sheetmetal and experiment with the two until you get the right combination of hole size vs. thickness.
