I used to always use an Au-Ve-Co 10780 clip, but now I prefer an Au-Ve-Co 12134 clip. Both are offset clips, but the 12134 clip holds onto the PVC foamboard better than the 10780 clip. They also don't telegraph through as easily.

I absolutely hate the plastic "Christmas tree" style retainers, so I never use them, but that's just a personal preference.

Does any one know where I can find a arch punch for GM style door clips(plastic trees) so I can punch holes into the panel board like the factory had.

I found countless sites that sell just round circle punches.

I could use the metal clips that have been mentioned but I would have to re-drill some new holes into the door skin. Original holes for the plastic clips are a little bigger I believe then what metal ones require.

Those holes are punched in by a punch press, there is no hand tool that cuts an oblong hole (that I know of). The solution is to cut two holes and use a utility knife along the sides to elongate the hole.
