Post Door Question

The car I have has the metal all around the window. I was thinking it would be nice to be able to get rid of that. is this done? i immagine that it would need some minor metal work to get the door frame to fill in where the door would have been, but is that it?

Miststlkr, are you asking if you can cut off the window frame and make your doors frameless? If you are, yes it can be done, there has been many cars done like this before. Cutting off the window frame will not only require metal work but you will also need to get new glass cut(or glass from a simular model without the frame) (Exmp. '64 biscayne - '64 Impala) You would also have to fabricate a place for the window to seal to when closed and also some added support for the now frameless window to prevent torquing and sagging. So to answer your question yes it can be done, but there is much involved. If you intent on doing this let me know, be happy to help.

well, i would love to do it but it sounds far more involved then i had hoped. i had a feeling it would be all that, but was kinda hoping that it wouldn't. i'm looking inot going to a local VoTech and taking their body classes and their welding classes. maybe after that i could pull something like this off, but i don't have what it takes yet.

i just mentioned it to my boss last night and i might even be able to get the bussiness to pay for part or all of the clases and they can write it off as training for a company mechanic as long as i take care of the company trucks :p they are looking into it with their accountant :p that would be so cool :p

Yep, things seem simple either until you get to the nitty gritty or actually start doing it

Thats the way to do it, I'm up for a job at a factory here that will send me to training for 8 weeks for all kind of good stuff and you don't have to pay even if your not hired
