Unhappy door seals

I just put my 65 el camino back together,
and installed new door seals.I cant shut
my doors unless i really slam them.
The seals seem stiff but the mfg claim
they are ok.
The doors shut just fine without the seals, just a slight push to latch the doors.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks for any help you can provide

You probably have not done anything wrong. I have found through the years that many times the new seals are made of a denser type of rubber that just will not compress the way the originals will. Your seals may compress a bit over time and make the doors close easier. Try just leaving the doors closed as often and as long as you can to see if it helps the situation. I had a similar problem with the door seals on my F1 when I got replacement seals for it. I ended up using a different type of weatherstrip instead of the stock type.

Just figure...the old seals are39 years old. They were compressed years ago. The new seals will compress over time. It may take awhile but it will happen. If it seems too tight you can try adjusting the door hinges and striker somewhat but then that will let the body lines mismatch. I'd let it go for a little while and see if it doesn't ease up a little before you adjust anything.

Thanks to all that replied to my door
seal posting.
I know what you mean about readjusting
the stricker and or hinges, but i spent too much time getting the doors and fenders to fit and close right.
I guess my question is,if the doors shut
the way they should ,why not now?
How do cars come off an assembly line and work fine?
This is the part of doing a car all over and
going crazy over the fine details.
Does it matter what company makes
the seals?
Thanks again
