Door Skin
How difficult is it to salvage a door SKIN? New ones are quite expensive and of questionable fit and quality. If it is impossible, or even really difficult, I might have to bite the bullet. I have a door that I cannot use because of hinges, etc., but the exterior is very good.

Fill us in here, why can't you use repair the door with the good skin?
What kind of doors are we talking about? Brian |
Door skins
Salvaging a door skin is a very difficult proposition at best.. would be a lot better to fix the hinge mounts if necessary. Lots easier to do that even if the existing hinge mounts are torn or broken.
Just my take.. OMT |
The beat-up door is from a '69 Nova which has bolt on hinges. The good door is from a '72 Nova which has welded hinges. There is no way to get the bolt-on type hinge to work on that door. Trying to cut the welds without trashing the door would be impossible. With the welded hinge door, there isn't enough adjustment to get it properly aligned. Tried that already. It looks like I'm up against too much here. New door skin in my future, I think.

Nova, I will bet you a dollar you could remove those hinges and put the bolt on ones. I do it all the time with Chevy Pickups, it is a major ***** but do-able.
If you take a good picture so I can see how the welds look I can tell you how to get it done. Brian |
