drip rails

My 56 GMC pickup has got some cancer on the drip rails above the windows I was wondering if anyone knew how hard or what needs to be done to just shave off the drip rails, where the factory welds would be or if anyone has had any experience with rusted drip rails

it can be done but it's not easy.
the roof has a flange that sets into the drip rail. the roof and the cab are not usualy on the same plane, it involves cutting off one side of the rail/flange and massaging the two pieces to meet. pie cutting the corners and filling in. after seeing how much work to do it, i chose not to on my 58. pick your battles, i choose not to do this one
