Drive test 700r4

I took my 69 C10 on a drive test to check out the new carb and TV made EZ system I got from Bowtie Overdrive. The instructions on step 3 say to slowly accelerate to where the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd than floor it so it down shifts to 1st and see what rpm it upshifts. Mine upshifed at about 5100 rpm, does that sound about right? My max rpm is 5200 for this engine.

This test run produced tremendous tire smoke. Hitting 2nd like this vaporizes the rear tires. What fun.

5100 upshift sounds good for hard acceleration in 1st. depending on your manifold rev range- you may actually start dropping off power and torque by the time you reach 5100 anyway, i.e. manifolds are designed to operate in a rev range.

Thanks, 5100 sounded ok to me also. I do need to open the exhaust up a little. Been thinking about some Corvett rams horn manifolds, my engine builder said there good for 30 hp.

My s10 (with 2.8L and 700r4) has the factory shift point at 5750rpm. If your motor is good till 5200 then a 5100 shift point sounds fine to me. I wouldn't set the rev limiter to 5200 though. It might kick in every once and a while and cause the trans to never shift. I would set the rev limiter to something more like 5500 (assuming your engine can handle that). My rev limiter is set to 6250 because with it set at 6000 it would sometimes hit it and not let the trans shift.
