driveshaft length, don't know what to do???

The drive shaft I have now has a 3 3/4" yoke it sticks out of the tranny seal 1 1/2" and the tranny shaft sticks out past the seal 1/4" so I have 2 1/2' ON THE SPLINE. i'VE BEEN TOLD THAT i SHOULD ONLY HAVE 3/4" TO 1" of the yoke shaft showing. Is mine ok or should I have a longer driveshaft? I have one available that is 1" longer should I get it shortened 1/2" so then I would only have 1" between the yoke and the seal?
thanks

You can clearly see where the seal ran for a long time on this yoke. Maybe you can see the wear place on yours and know how far it is supposed to be in. I have always pulled the yoke ALL THE WAY in and then pulled it out 3/4 to 1 inch. That's where they are supposed to run. Then I had the driveshaft made to fit ...

It may not be up on the shaft enough to keep it from trying to rock and therefore cause your seal to leak....if you do not have any problem with leaks or short lived seals...then I would not worry about it.
