drum brakes 4 straight axle

I plan to order an aftermarket dropped I-beam axle for my '27 ford roadster. I want to run drum brakes for a nostalgic look with the '35 ford wires that I already have. I haven't had any luck finding '40 ford spindles & drums. I'm pretty sure I can locate some parts from a '53 - '56 f100; but will they work? I'd also like an alternative to a vega steering box (man are they high). Anyone have any suggestions?

There's several companies making after market spindles for your axle. In this month's Street Rodder magazine, there's an article on putting the F100 brakes on the early spindles and explains the benefits of the conversion.
