Cool dual 4's on 390

im getting my 390 back from the machine shop in a few days. its bored .060 over, its got a edelbrock performer rpm cam, heavier valve springs and all the trick stuff done to the oil passages and such. ive aquired a 427 lowriser dual quad manifold for it and have purchased 2 600 holleys 4160's with #65h jets, ive got the correct throttle shafts and progressive linkage for it, im thinking i might want to jet these carbs down a little or at least the secondary carb, any ideas on what jets to get? ive also found a adjust a jet kit that allows you to make jet adjustments while the car is running, which would only work on the secondary carb because it fits between the metering block and the bowl and there just isnt enough room in between the carbs for anything else. has anyone had any experience with these? any ideas and advice on what to expect and how to proceed would be appreciated. thanks.

Arrow

I'd start with the stock jetting and work from there, you could be making extra work for yourself since you don't have any real basis for which jets you need.

Thumbs up

howziit guys!

i'm in total agreement; run the carbs as is, take spark plug readings, and note how the engine feels, in all aspects.

i've done the "re-jets before testing" many times. time and $$$ wasted.

No! I would buy two cam kits since you will more than likely need to adjust the accelerator pump delivery. Two secondary spring kits also, you might want to stick the stiffest springs into your secondaries until you get the primaries tuned.

Get her hooked up and buy some parts like gaskets for your Holley. You will taking her apart on a fairly regular basis until she's tuned well. A little white grease or moly powder on the cheap (tan) bowl gaskets will allow you to pull the bowls repeatedly while you tune...or you can buy the nice blue gasket$-they are the best.
