dual exhaust question

I'm going to install a dual exhaust on my mercedes 450 sl . The car has a sbc 350 vortec and a 700r tranny. I'm going to stick with stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. The problem is clearance/space for 2 mufflers. Was wondering if anyone has heard of a 2 inlet and 2 exit style muffler. Thought late model Vettes had them, but contacted "Borla" and they don't handle one. Thanks for the help.

re: dual exhaust question

I think the first gen Camaro's may have had a setup like that, maybe someone else here can confirm?

re: dual exhaust question

Dynomax #17725 is a dual-in/dual-out muffler with 2-1/4" inlets & outlets. It's the one that's used for early Camaros & Novas with factory dual exhaust. In normal configuration, with inlets directly across from each other, they are pretty restrictive, and only capable of supporting 237hp, according to Dynomax. They will, however, flow straight through, with inlet pipes offset on either side, or with both inlets on one side.

My Nova came with that type of muffler, and you can look down each inlet/outlet and see all the way through out the other side, and the inner flow tubes are perforated just like a good glasspack. I suspect the Dynomax is constructed similarly, but I don't know for sure. If so, it should support quite a bit more power if the exhaust runs straight through, but I suspect it'd be quite a bit louder.

Flowmaster also makes a muffler with a similar external configuration, and the one I heard (on a Firebird 400) was LOUD.

Fine print says "will flow all directions/connections"

re: dual exhaust question

Thanks for the input guy's.........I'll look into both sources mentioned. Would like a "small block" "rumble" tone, but don't want to be to loud outside or inside. Thanks
