I have this points distribuitor installed in a Ford 300 inline six

it has the dual pot vaccum advance

I belive the port that is closest to the dist body goes to manifold vaccum, and the one that is further away goes to ported vaccum..

am I correct..??

it's a daily driver Granada.

I found this info on another board, maybe it will help you.

The Outer port is for Timed Vac. Fords do not advance the timeing while idleing. Timed Vac is also called Ported.

Check your carb vac and at idle if you have vaccum on the port you have a bad carb.

When you set your timeing you shoudl be able to place and remove that vacuum line without yoru timeing moving at idle.

The Inner port is NOT a retard and its NOT for emissions. It prevents a Pre-computered engine from Overheating.

You should have a Thermal vacuum port SWITCH. on top of the manifold with Manifold vacuum to it and usually a couple of vaccum lines from it one Goes to emissions the other to your distributor. When the engine temp gets to high at IDLE it delivers Manifold VAC to your Distrib advancing the timing which increases the idle and the engine pulls more air through the radiator. That riches the mix a bit and WHY there is an emissions componet to this system. The Emissions is secondary to the purpose of the dual vacuum. The purpose is keep your heads from warping when you idle.

thanks a lot, I tought it was for retarding the timing, I do have a TVS in the water neck and I'm gonna use it, makes sense what you posted, it will work as a mean to raise the idle speed, interesting....
