I am assuming, short of an explanation form Krist that the two panels are bonded together before covering with foam and upholstery. The first panel has cutouts accepting the fasteners that hold the entire panel to the door.

Most of the time I do not double my Boards (I use 1/8 wood). I always ues two layers of foam 1/8'' 1st and then 1/4'' or 3/16''. With the Auveco 12759 I put it in-between the foam. I try to keep my panels thin. The thicker I make them the harder time I have getting the doors shutting right (after all upholstery is finished in the car). I go out of my way to make sure the back of the door and the cut leather are water proofed.

There isnt really a right or a wrong way. Shannon has his way which obviously works well for him, and I have my way which works good for me. You may find a way that works better for you.

302/Z28 is exactly right. Thats how we build or panels. When we bond the panels together, we dont put glue really close to the fasteners. This and the double panels allows the changing of "trees" if they happen to break. And they will break. Also, if you are using a "christmas tree" fastener that requires a 1/4" hole to be drilled, drill it 1/32"nd bigger. It will help in removing the panels, but still holds very good.
