Has anyone els here built a dune buggy.

how did you build yours use a car frame or something? What kind of motors did you use. I put a mild 350 chevy with a th-350 in mine.

I used VWs for all of them. In the 70s you could buy a good running VW for $50. I stripped off the bodies, cut 14" out of the floor pan and welded them back together. Put the original front seats back in, fab up a rollbar that you can mount the gas tank to, and wullah . . . . . . . . . you have a poor man's sandrail for under $50. I think they were all 1600 DP engines. You can't beat VW for dune buggies. They have the best independent suspension, and the air cooled rear engine stands up to a beating.

The two I have now are both Manx type beach buggies. These ones are getting the full treatment tho'. I have $4,000 in the one that I'm working on now.

when i get my dune buggy out on the road i can smoke the tires as far as i want. i think i might get rid of the sbc a get a bbc with a 3500 stall. then it'll be more like a dragster. I can do wheeles with it if it hooks really good.:evil
