Hi guys,
Have had a brief look over a few threads & still have some questions re: dynamat. A lot of the alternatives you've mentioned are not available over here (Aus) but dynamat is, albeit fairly pricey.
I'm looking to do the floors, roof & inside the doors of my Falcon 4-door wagon. These things have heaps of squeeks & rattles even when new seals etc are used, so I'm hoping to make a big difference in this area.
My question revolves around people's experience with using this dynamat product in particular (good or bad) and I'm hoping to get an idea on how much of it I might need to cover my project.
Thanks
Wazza
Ive had good experiences with dynamat.
On my truck, I used to have bad resonance from the exhaust in the cab. Then when I put new carpet in I put a layer of dynamat on the floor. Made that interior much quieter.
Even on door panels it makes the car seem like a newer car. Like how the older cars all seem to rattle when you shut the door and have a hollow kind of sound and that you have to slame it hard.
I put dynamat on my doors, and when I shut them, Its like shutting a new car door, it doesn't have that old hollow rattling sound.
Only bad thing I have to say about the stuff is that it costs a nice chunk just for a little bit. And it does add wieght to the car if that is a concern for you.
As for how much your gonna need, well, your just gonna have to get out a pen and paper and a tape measure and figure up how much you want covered and figure out how much your gonna need.
Well thanks for the replys fellas.
Got onto a couple of bulk packs of dynamat extreme on ebay for "back of the truck" prices so I'm going to give it a go. Might be a while till the full car gets done so I may not see much result till then.
Thanks again
Well I went to the Dynamat rep at the NSRA meet a few weeks ago and he had no product, only order blanks. I was bummed. I was really impressed with the Lizard Skin demo though. It is way less expensive than the Dynamat, and is lighter. Another product that appears to be the same thing is Cool Car. Both are sprayable ceramic insulation. I was really impressed by the heat insulating qualities of both, as well as the noise canceling. To do the entire inside of my 34 body, including doors, top, firewall and trunk area with two coats to a recommended thickness of .040 would take 2, 2 gallon buckets at about $150 each. I figured Dynamat would be about $600 to $700.
If interior panels (dash parts, etc.) are the source of the squeaks, disassemble dash, door, etc. (source of rattle) and put a bead of gasket sealer on the surface where they overlap; if the meet and do not overlap, then I don't know what to say... unless there's some touchup paint or some way that the make-a-gasket would not be noticed, in those situations, you're stuck then I guess. Best of luck!
The dynamat will reduce road noise, and make the wife happier, and the radio may be heard whilst turned to a reasonable volume! It's really nice like that sometimes.
Did you go to the seminar at the NSRA Nationals .. ?
There was one and I was also impressed. I believe I am going to go that route on the 3W ...
I have some Nomex type stuff from a Nextel Cup team ... like they use on the firewall. I think I will spray the Lizard Skin and use the foil ... also. At least on the firewall .
Hmm, ive worked on a few cars that had the lizard skin sprayed in and i wasnt very impressed at all. It seems to stay "gummy", and is REALLY annoying if you have to drill holes through it Just my personal experience though.
Today one of our club members turned us onto a DyanaMat like product that appears identical. It is B-Quite and it is quite a bit cheaper than DyaMat. I am planning to use it over the Lizard Skin or Cool Car for some added insulating value.
Deuce: I did not get to make it to the seminar, bet it was impressive. Was it any different than the one the vendor was doing on the floor, because I was very impressed with that short demo.
my brother has a stereo system in the trunk of his car. did the inside of the trunk lid and inner quarter's with it, it got rid of a majority of his sqeek's and rattle's.
I used PEEL & SEAL !! I compared it to Dynamat, and the black tar layer is a bit thinner, but it still deadens the panel. It cost me around $100 to do the whole interior of a sedan, compared to $1000 for Dynamat ( CND Dollars). I would rather give up 5% insound deadning for the $900 it saved me.
I was going to use Lizard skin, but I thought the product was over priced. I even spoke to the guy that invented this stuff, and their whole marketing strategy is to make it about half the cost of Dynamat. My problem was that you must use their special spray gun, and it cost almost as much as the Lizard skin itself.
on my first install I used brown bread and it was really good on my trunk. Took out all rattles and focused sound into the cabin so good that when windows and doors closed you could hear a slight thump but open the doors and it was a concert inside. Only downside to brown bread was I found that it came off way too fast, it will be dynamat for me next time
I used the peel & Seal. Covered my entire cab (64 C-10) and doors for less than 100 bucks. It is the Bomb! IMHO.
