DZ302 crankshaft identification

One of the guys at work was given a steel crank that's been laying around in his neighbor's garage for several years. The donor swears it came out of a 69 Camero DZ302 motor. It looks like the light surface rust on the journals will clean up at .010-.010 and the price is right. I'm kind of toyin' with the idea of building a D-stroked motor around it but first, I'd like to know how to do an easy quick positive ID on it. There are very few numbers on it to go with. Is there another easier way or do I have to get the journal sizes and throw specs to be absolutely sure?

crank

All 302 cranks were steel. if it is a 69 the last 4 numbers are 1178. Also the flange at the flywheel will be totally round with only 1 small notch in it... the 327's have 2 nothces. it will also have the snout drilled and tapped....

if its a steel crank you shouldn't have to grind it unless it has deep pits or nicks.for normal light rust on steel cranks you just have them polished or you can sometimes do it yourself with emery paper and some rawhide boot lace's.

It appears to be all of the above with one notch. The casting numbers are real vague though, only two visible numbers on one of the front counterweights that look like either two sevens or stretching the imagination , a seven and an eight with some fuzzy stuff up front. Without really sizing it up, it's one of the heaviest duty short-throw SB Chevy cranks I've ever seen.

I think it's a keeper. Thanks, Charlie

looking at the mortec site only 2 cranks end in 77. there both 327 and are forged cranks one is 4577 and the other is 3884577. either way i would definitely keep it
