e-brake bracket - jb weld - paint or no? hmn
hi.
So, I have this e-brake bracket for:Matraca - my '65 chevy c10 lwb stepside That was a bit wallowed out where it bolts to the trailing arm.. so I put some JB weld on it as I don't have a welder and wouldn't know what to do with one anyway. I cleaned it up good, put the JB on it, let it sit up - sanded/dremeled it to how I wanted it... So, I'm wondering.... do I bother to paint it or leave it alone? The rest of the bracket had the nice rust covered patina on it.. it's going underneath the truck... This isn't a show truck, just my driver - but I like it. anyway, I was on here reading through posts and thought I'd ask you folks. -W |

JB weld will bond great, but won't stand up to wear from vibration and movement. If you just don't want to or can't take it somewhere to be welded, clean it up real good and JB Weld two washers on it. Make sure you sand/lightly grind the washer where the JB Weld will be donding or it won't hold well. Wipe all bonding surfaces with paint thinner to clean good before applying epoxy also. There should be enough surface area on the washers to bond well, and the washer itself will withstand the wear.
