E-brake position/auto trans66

I've looked at a few 66 chevy trucks with automatics installed replacing original 3-speed; seems everyone opts to remove the parking brake brackets/cables. I haven't yet located a crossmember for the 350 that's in my truck (it's sitting on the old original crossmember which is several inches forward of the trans mount on the 350). I may switch to a 700R4, but I definitely don't want to eliminate the E-brake mechanism. Suggestions?
Note: I believe my frame is from an older truck because the frame no. doesn't match the VIN; I had to relocate radiator mounts and the rearend indicates a '64 but no one has been able to solve this mystery.
