If you want to upgrade the early 700R4 you can do what I did to mine. I have one in my 84 Trans Am and I went through B&M to get a "transkit". One of their complete rebuild kits. It's got larger valves and a shift kit included...don't recall the number off hand. Just look through their web site or give them a call and they should be able to tell you what to get. Runs about $300 for the kit. Anyway, even stock, the 700R4 will handle alot...easily what you want and with the kit, anything up through 450ish horse power and around the same amount of torque is candy. One of the most annoying things I noticed, was that they are timed to throttle position. When i'm in Overdrive, if I push the pedal 3/4 of the way down, it shifts out of OD and down to 3rd gear. Even if I'm up around 90, I have a hard time getting it back into OD...not sure if there is a way to fix that or not. Anyway, hope this helps!

If it's an 86, then you should have the electronic version, which is the newer style. Either way, for what you are running, it will be able to handle what you are trying to do to your motor.

Not always. The cable controlled 700r4 was used up into the 90's. What is it out of, and does it have a TV cable on the passenger side? |
