early 90s Ford Explorer rear ends

Put a set of shocks on a buddies 2 wheel drive Explorer today..............It looks like a 9 in rear end under there....................Is it?

Pretty sure its the 8.8 dont they have disc brakes?

From all of my times researching this, the Explorer was only optioned with the ford 8.8 inch axle.

If I remember right the Explorer 8.8 didn't get disc brakes as standard issue until after 1999.

OK...thanks

The reason I asked, is that, it's is the "Pot" type rear, which iis what a 9 inch is. I thought that the 8.8s had the rear cover.........

Do you have a way to get a pic of it, All of my sources call for the Explorer to have a Dana 35 in the front 90-94 TTB/95-03 CV shafts, and the rear to have the Ford 8.8 inch for all years.
I found nothing different even in an online search????
