Hey guys.
Im thinkin bout gettin eastwoods home powdercoating set. Anyone tried this yet?
I got a spare oven and lots of little parts to coat.
Can anyone check out the purple color on like page 5-6 and tell me how its going to look purple? looks brown to me????

From what i know it works great. im not sure how it will compare to a more expensive unit but for a hobbiest it is just fine.. as for the color.. no color looks like it does in real life through a computer monitor.. the powders are cheap enough so i say just order it and see it in real life.

Hey Hemmie,
I talked with a guy at a show this spring that uses the Eastwood kit and an old oven. He had a bunch of sample stuff and it all looked great. I'll be having him do all of the coating for Bad Ast as I get parts done.
He said it is really dependant on prep and he bead blasts all of the pieces before coating and uses a degreaser of some kind. I didn't catch the name. But he said it works very well right out of the box...

This powder coating stuff looks great. I think I will pick one up soon. Sounds like PC is much better than a rattle can of paint. Does anybody know if the size of the part is limited to only the size of the oven??? and at what temp does it work at? thanks guy's

It does look much better than regular spray dont it?
I think the part will work just as long as it will fit into the oven. Id say use a hanger and hang the parts so it dont get the grilled look from laying it on the grates in the oven. I think its 400 degrees for like 15 minutes, but the kit will tell you for sure. HG

Something to consider when you start powdercoating is to make sure there's no plastic or rubber hidden inside the part you're powdercoating. Suspension parts look great powdercoated, but be careful of hidden bushings, seals, etc... I wouldn't do tie rod ends, idler arms, or anything else that might contain plastic, rubber, teflon or the like. The heat needed to melt/cure the powder will make these materials brittle, and they'll fail over time.

I checked with a local powdercoating company here, and he told me they could do the frame for a truck project I'm working on for about $400 - and that includes the prep. I don't think I could prep and paint it for that price.
