Google edb30174 and you get hits like:

http://www.novaresource.org/axle.htm

http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/zsusp.html

Notes like:
I have found out, through one of the chevelle clubs, that one of the first things to check is the spline count. The 12 bolt chevy has 30 and the oldsmobile that looks identical to the chevy eaton chunk has 31 splines. The same person gave me the series numbers for the three chunks they are: Series 2-ED32088, Series 3-EDB30140, Series 4-EDB30174. As to which series carries which gear ratio will be another post to come later.
