Ebay Truck Headache

I bought this 65 Dodge 700 dump truck on Ebay and I must say that the whole deal has turned out to be a pain. The price was only 100.00 but the truck is 200 miles away from home. I called the woman before I bid and she told me that the truck would run but they could only get it to idle. She told me that the carburator needed rebuilt. She also told me that the back was full of crap but we would dump that somewhere on her farm. We agreed that I would drive down, pay her and remove the carburator for the rebuild so that I could return, replace the carb and drive the truck home. So I drive the 400 mile round trip only to discover that the carb was missing. She told me that she would just give me the truck and handed over the title. But I had to take the stuff in the back. 1st deal change, I was going to give her the $100.00 anyway but she wanted to give it to me. I emailed her one day that if everything worked out that I would be down to get the truck on this one certain Thursday. Things came up that I could not make it on that date so she emails me that the deal is off and just to send her back the title. (A 700 Dodge dump truck probably weighs between 15,000 to 17,000lbs empty. I was not about to attempt to drive it 200 miles loaded with crap on shakey tires in 100+degree heat. That is just asking for trouble.) 2nd deal change. So I figure whatever makes her happy is fine with me and I email her back that I would just send back the title. So a couple of days go by and I get an email from Ebay that she has turned me in as a non-paying bidder. (After I drove 400 miles to pay her that takes nerve.) I get an email from her that she has found the carb and now she either wants me to pay for the truck or pay the fee and send her back the title. I would still have a mark on my Ebay record for being a nonpaying bidder. Any how I could go on for a lot longer time than you care to read about this deal but I am planning on going down tomorrow to pay her and hopefully get the truck with no crap. If she gives me any guff I will go home and turn her in to Ebay as a remorseful seller.

Get it running, hit the dump by mistake, drop a c-note in her hand and drive off w/ the title.

All in all, e-bay is my friend, but like they say in business, when you are open to the public, everyone comes in. You get the good with the not so good! Sorry man

I would pay her only on the condition that she advise e-bay to rescind the non paying buyer remarks from your record and that it was just a misunderstanding. Otherwise you've gone through all this hassle for nothing and even though you have the truck you're e-bay record is smudged.

Also if you have e-mail records from her that support your position send a copy to e-bay if she doesn't cooperate along with a complete explanation.

I try never to talk to the seller over the phone. If you e-mail you always have a written record of what agreements etc are made for your own protection.

Ebay Truck Update.

My brother and I went down yesterday and I gave her a C-note and had her fill out a bill of sale. All I can say is that I feel sorry for her husband (seems like a real nice guy) and that I am glad that I do not have to live with someone like her.

They had found the carburator from the truck in the kids sandbox, I guess the kids had been playing with it out there for who knows how long.

Niether one of us had seen a carb so full of crap on our lives. Every passage was plugged solid. Five cans of carb cleaner later we had all the passages free and the carb reassembled but by that time it was around 1:00 AM with a 200 mile trip home ahead of us so we threw the carb in the car and went home. Have to go down next week and see if we can get it running and if it will make it home under it's own power.

It is really not a bad old truck and the odometer shows 078000.
78,000 actual miles on a 1965 Dodge dump truck, can you belive that? It has a 361-3 engine, the -3 stands for extra heavy duty.
5-speed transmission and a 2-speed rear end.

Sounds like the truck is going to work out ok. Don't know if I would use the carb from the sand box. Anyway to find something to place on top of the engine for time being. I wouldn't know how much the sand gouged the orifices of the carb. Are you going to sweet talk the folks into restoring your history on ebay?

Good luck
Dutch
