Economy fuel injection

I have a 283 SBC w/4 spd and 2.73(currently)gears in a 5 window 28 Ford coupe. I currently run a Holley 600 CFM on an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold. I would like to change over to Electronic Fuel Injection but I am short on cash and don't have the money for the conversion. I mainly would like the reliability and cold start manners of fuel injection. Does anyone know how and what I need to convert to old time TBI system? I know the performance will not match newer injection and or carburetion.
Thanks - Jerry

Check out megasquirt.com

They have a cheap DIY system. I would recommend getting the version with ignition timing control for the best mpg possible.

A 283 with a large throttle body like the ones off the 5.7L motors would lose very little power unless you're going to rev it to the moon.
