Edelbrock carb. won't fast idle

I just got my 1980 k10 on the road, rebuilt the 350 in it. It runs good, got all of the little quirks figured out, except the carb. It has an edelbrock 1400 carb on it. When you start the truck from sitting overnight, it doesn't fast idle. It has the electric choke on it. I checked the power plug on the coke, and it has 12v with the ignition on, and made sure the ground it tight.

Before I started it this morning, I took the air cleaner off and the choke snapped shut like it is supposed to when I was starting it, and it opens when the truck warms up a bit. Does the outside temp make a difference for cold idle. It has been in the 70's and 80's here for the past couple of weeks.

When it is started cold, it idles low, about 600-700 rpm. If I rev it a couple of time the idle will smooth out and stay at 900 in park like its supposed to. Its not a big deal right now, but when winter hits I don't want to be out in the -20 keeping it going with my foot, until it will idle on its own.

If the choke snapped shut when you removed the air cleaner housing, I would look at the housing for clearance problems.

With that said, usually the choke will work at around 60 deg F or cooler, unless you adjust it up tighter with the housing.

Hope this helps.

The adjustment for the 1400 series carburetors is under the linkage on the drivers side.
