Edelbrock E-street heads
 
Im doing a mild 350 chevy build and i have a set of edelbrock e street heads in the garage from a build i did a while back. Im going to clean them up a little bit and change out the valve springs i was told that the K-Motion K-750 springs were a direct drop in, anyone done it or know if it will work?

I would use the springs that your camshaft mfg. recommends for thier cam and that fits the E-Street heads valve spring pocket.

Lots of reported spring break age with this brand of valve springs.

There are many other brands of springs that are direct drop on replacements
for the Edelbrock E street heads. That have a much better track record.

EG isky 205D or Isky 235D EG lunati 73943 Howards ,,, Even summit racing has 1.26" valve springs for your heads.
Not to mention Edelbrock RPM valve springs.

You can even use cool GM LS6 bee hive style springs with comp 787-16 retainers.

The E street heads will make a lot more power once ported to improve flow.
Now would be the time to do that.

Thanks for the info, yes i plan on porting them the runners are a little rough.

Post some pictures of the ports and valve bowls when you get them torn down.

These as cast, entry level heads should turn out really really good, once ported.
All heads like this improve a lot with porting.

remember the real flow gains are deep in the port. Many people get all carried away makeing the port entry opening big (cause its easy to reach and looks impressive.)
I would use a Felpro 1205 gasket as a guide.

Post some pic after porting too.
I believe these E steet heads are a good buy for guys that like to port their own heads and are on a budget.
Sjop for a valve spring that will do the job for the cam you plan on running
rather than price.

A low price spring that is not up to the task is not a good deal.
You need to measure the present spring installed height and the clearance between the seal and retainer.
Are the spring seats on these heads able to accomodate a larger 1.46" diameter dual spring or just a 1.26" stock diameter spring? The machining to open up the spring pockets for large diameter springs is relatively easy to do.

What cam are you planning to run? Now is the time to get the valvetrain planned and sorted out.

I will be home in a few days i will post pictures when i get them torn down and cleaned up and ready for porting. Was thinking i could soak them in varsol for a day then pressure wash them. A few guys i have talk to have machined the spring pockets to accomodate 1.46 springs. As for a cam i was going to run Howards retro CL110245 225/231 @50 500/512 lift 112 lobe separation. I'v herd the estreet springs are not the best so i will see what Howards recomends for springs with that cam. As far as valvetrain i was thinking roller tip rockers from comp or howards havent decided yet.

Try easy off oven cleaner. really eats carbon and grease Then hot soapy water (sunlight dish soap)

what the head going on?
vehicle? power level.....
will a 1.29" beehive spring sit on the spring seat?
The GM LS6 springs rock and the price is right.
GM#12499224 + comp 787-16 retainers. shim to height and seat -open pressure as required.

Long story short the engine is going in a 73 camaro. I had afrs on it before, then had a cam lobe go south. Pulled the engine out to clean it up and put a set of bearings in it, a friend of mine was in a bind and needed a set of heads for the weekend and couldnt wait, so he paid me what i had paid them. With house renos and everything els on the go I was thinking i could sweeten up the edelbrocks.

350 .030 over flat tops .025 in the hole fel-1094 .015 head gaskets edelbrock 7101 performer rpm intake, holley 670 street avanger, msd street fire dizy, 1 5/8 long tube hooker headers, 2 1/2 duel exhaust thrush turbo mufflers. th350 3500 stall 3.73 posi. My goal is a true 370 hp

I'm not sure is a 1.29 beehive spring will sit on the spring seat i havent got
the heads apart yet. I should have time on monday or tuesday as soon as i get them cleaned up i will post pictures . I will also post pictures as i am porting any advise would be much appreciated i have onley ported one set of heads 10 years ago in high school shop.

For your Z/28 Id go right to the Comp XE solid street roller cams
EG: XR274R-10 K12-770-8 or XR280R-10 K12-771-8.

A true Z/28 LT-1 with +++ street power and torque.

These cams are as quiet as hyd cam when correctly adjusted. And the lash stays.
Big power. Easy streetability. once a year valve lash done easily cold.....012" .014"
These comp XE mechanical street rollers rock.

Use 1.5:1 Scorpion/Summit/Howards roller rockers

The K kits are a hell of a deal.
if you want to do something reall good for your Hot Ported Edelbrock heads and either of these cams
swap the rocker studs for 7/16" and get the 7/16" rocker. 1.5:1 ratio is fine.

If the comp 1.46" springs will not sit on the spring seats its a easy quick machining upgrade you or any machne shop can perform.

Your ported E Street head motor will rock with one of these moderate Comp Mechanical Street Rollers.

Sounds like a hell of a combo, i have a 96 350 vortec would i be better off using that block?

No advantage for this build, especially if you choose to go with the comp XR street roller.

If you used the AFR 180s,that lith\tle solid roller,A 750 HP x pumper,you would probably have a real 440 HP engine.Put 3 inch exhaust system on it some day

Don't know if your interested or not, but I thought i might through this out there as food for thought.
I have a set of Edel. 6073 that I played with using a Dremel with a wand. Not saying you should, but I think it worked for me well enough.
Also thought I'd mention that along with your new springs, you really need to use either a spring cup, or a locator like the Comp Cams Spring Cups pn 4694-16 to keep the springs from dancing around and chewing up the heads. By the way, they fit around the guides great without any head mods, and seem to almost snap into the bottom of the beehive spring pn 26986-16. That aren't the ones you need for the solid roller mentioned earlier, but there better than stock Edel. springs IMO.
