edelbrock pro flo/ holley commander
is anyone using the edelbrock pro flo efi or the holley commander efi (MPI or TBI) I would like some opinions, I have used the holley projectiion DI good and bad, I want to go a new EFI (MPI) on my 398 windsor stroker and want to fit it under my stock 67 must hood. The holley commander universal MPI is looking good, the edelbrock is priced good but the electronics seem pretty antiquated and you cant use a lo pro air cleaner with it.

I'm using the Pro Flo, very happy with it and would buy another one if the need arose. My Bud has the Holly and says he would never have another.

holley comander 950---for life
High There
i am so into my comander and what it does for me i am totally blooown---away on how it performs.... it is a masterpiece of automitive enginering that i cannot now live with out---infact i just up graded to the race 950 and it help balance out my cold starts better.......also now on holleys web site they have starter maps for all ocasions--cause if your at all like me you need a place to start... i have had mine for 4 years now and consideriate a main stay for everything i build in the future.... i actually tested this unit for holley when it first came out---and ran it towing a trailer----25,000 stright miles----and the only thing that went wrong was---i went through 2--tps sensors----but i believe i was to stupid at the car wash......it has performed truley amazing......and now i am about to get the comander for a big block and a stealth ram comander for another small block...... also try the holley hightec air cleaner on it and if your brave polish-- polish the intake on the comander and it will win shows for you..... please do not be ascared of all the wires.....when you take the time to look at them alll---it's a breeze of an install.....and if i can do this----you have got to believe me anyone can..... a tip would be to print out the manual on holleys website and start studying the things in the manual you'll need to know.....and the only other thing i can think to tell you is --it likes to run cool---so a 160 thermo---works tops---and i tried several till i found what enviroment it likes to live and work in...... anyway best of luck-and it's holleys baby--which means they have lots of help avaible---but if you run in to anytrouble at alll------call their tec line and ask for chris fox--as he is the best tec there on the comander and can walk you through the install in no time at all.......tell him the alaskan sent you... go comander all the way---you'll feel the same way on the first drive..... alaskan ps---if your indoubt on which injectors to get---or the line is close within the hp ranges--go to the larger injector--rite from the start.....this will save you from having to switch them out latter..... oh yeah---it likes big headers and exhust systems better......just a last tip... also the photo in my id is of the comander 950 mpfi----- |

which one?
I cant really see the pic, is it tbi or mpi? I'm not scared of wires actually I ran the very first projections(analog) and Ihad a "DI" system on the car for about four years and it was responsive but troublesome to keep tuned.
I hear the commander system is much better than the DI. I am building a 398 windsor and have been leaning to either the commander TBI on a stealth or the commander universal MPI on a ported torker2. I'm just wondering if the torker 2 will flow enoough, but I want to keep my stock hood. This engine will be right around 500-510 hp, with a custom specced hyd roller that should idle at 650 and pull 14-15 hg at idle, do you see any prob with a 106-108 LDA on the cam with FI? The overlap will be minimal and int duration will be in the 224-228 @050. I know you can run open loop at idle but I thought I would ask since you have been running it. Thanks R |

check open loop info
i've attached a few photo's for you to peak at---one is the rig after the 25k tour--and it is the multiport system--try at all costs to stay away from the tbi---they are differant animals----and although still run by the comander---they are wordls apart in durability and function and looks...
you'll have to do some reading on the open- closed loops----we had the hardest time setting it up and could never get it to idle right with open loop---till the engine builder blood-in seattle-set me up on a race comander 950 now we run open loop at idle--really for the first time---without a long warmup.... everything else you want to do sounds doable for the comander---but really you need to ask someone other then me--if everything will flow toghter.... one call to holley-----@--1-270-782-2900----and ask for chris fox--he-will answear all your questions....i know that the comander is a unbeliievable piece of equipment---but i am still trying to learn from the masters --everywere---especially on this unique board.......so it's best to run your spec's past someone else..... you can also drop a line to 1bad80 here on the board and he'll turn you on to everything you need to know.....if in my life i can learn just 10% of what he knows--i'll go to my grave happy.....and he's a class act as well..... anyway i know that here in alaska---open loop on start up would not cut it--but i am at 3,000 ft trying to do it,,,and it is this sensitive....then we went to the race comander and no matter were i am it runs well at start up and finally idles at 700 perfect......alls the race comander is --is a little more tuneable unit---and you can take a regular comander box and reprogram it for the race version.....and , even carry over all your settings with ease.... anyway i know it's not much but i hope i was able to help a little..... alaskan i down sized the photo's so there nothing to load a ;/comander intake Last edited by ALASKAN : 03-28-2004 at 10:30 PM. |

something new
hey hot
i just learned something that may help but you migh allreadY know it as well... there was a very informative post here-somewere that one guy like tbi--over mpi--for the simple reason that if a injector goes out with the mpi--you will probably fry a cylinder before you no it's gone.....like i said you may allready know this but... if you did not like me it's a very good thing to learn..... If an injector fails in MPI you will not "fry" a cylinder, it will just miss. If one fails in TB, you could seriously lean out the engine. But, injectors dont usually just fail. It can happen, but not often enough to be a deciding factor.
