Edelbrock RPM Heads, SBC

Thoughts on these heads? Good....Bad....OK? I picked up a very low mileage used set for about half of new price. Plan is to use them on mild 350.

Can't speak personally about the specific heads but as with any used buy I would suggest getting them checked by a good head shop. If they are in good shape then the cost of checking them over will be minimal, if not then better that you know before they go on, may need to spend a bit more to have them setup and good to go but just do it if its minor fixes IMO.

What are the cc of the chamber, the runner volume, the max lift and the spring pressure are good things to know among others, you can confirm some of these on your own via model number. It is always best though to cc the chambers so you know for sure what you have, maybe the heads were milled or messed with in some other way.

Depending on which model # head and the REAL conditon of the heads you have they will be fine for a mild to pretty warm build. They are not race heads and some guys I've read on here say they are "junk"....not so.

I had a pair of #60899 heads on my 331" sbc and they performed very well. If they are 64cc heads make sure your compression won't be too high (with your pistons) for the street. Iwould have them checked before you install them, just never know how they were used prior to your purchase.

They are "supposed" to be unmodified. I think you are right though. I'll get them checked.

These heads are advertised at 185cc port volume, which ought to be ok for a mild build. I haven't used them because I'm a bit allergic to aluminum (I hate helicoil), but one thing I'd be sure of is that they haven't been brinelled (indented) by the head gasket rings, particularly if your intended new gaskets don't match up to the indentations.

i just put a set on my 355 and just broke in the cam. they seem good but the road here are muddy and 4 feet of snow, so it will be a month or so till the roads are driveable. living on a main dirt road sucks.

The car is a 65 vette driver with a 69 350/350, 11:1 comp, currently 186 heads 2.02/1.6, Hooker sidepipes, Richmond non-od 5sp with 3.08 rear. Right now has Edelbrock EPS manifold with 750 Demon but going to Edelbrock 3X2 intake with small base Roch carbs, progressive linkage. Also going to a Howards retro roller cam, recommend here.

Reminds me of my brothers '63 split window ...but he sold it back in '68. It was a theft recovery, it was cherry but missing engine and trans. We built our first 327 for it, 4 spd., we glassed on fender flares and my Dad painted it marina blue laquer (gorgeous!!!). Installed REAL American magnesium torque masters with Firestone red steak tires. Turnred out very nice, like I said he sold it a couple of years later.........for $1700!!
