edlebrock carb hickups

I have a 1970 El Camino with a late "80's" 350cid engine, I installed a 500cfm Edelbrock carb on it several years ago and 98% of the time it works just fine!
But if you run it hard or floor the car the idle circuit in the carb acts like it gets dirt in it and idles bad. I used to take out the Idle mixture screws and blow air through them and it would clear it up. I now just downshift into a lower gear and floor it for about 1/2 a second 3 times and it clears up! It is annoying but not bad enough to buy a new carb over. Anyone else have this happening to them?

It sounds to me more like it's running out of gas as the idle circuits aren't effected by the main circuits. Anytime off idle the idle circuit is not in use.
However if it has trash in the carb it could be picking it up when the car returns to idle. You may want to pop the top of the carb off and check the bowl for trash.
