Hi All. Picked up a '50 Ford 4 door on Saturday where the previous owner had installed an EFI 5.0 and T5 from a 1990 Mustang donor. I'm novice with EFI and could use some help before the car combusts.
Some of the work appears to be done well, some not so well. The fuel tank setup has me very worried... it is Frankenstein'd in the trunk, with fuel lines running in the trunk, through a crude hole in the floor to the filter and hard lines. Here is a picture (it'll hurt your eyes):

I have a couple questions:
1. None of the soft lines had hose clamps. Clamps in the picture I put on in a pinch. These are necessary as the lines are significantly pressurized, right?
2. The current tank has another flange (apparently identical) on the front side of the tank (below the floor, vertical surface facing the engine). That secondary flange is not connected (just a 'filler' plate). Can the existing in-tank pump be moved to that front flange, or does the pump (or a 90 Mustang pump in particular) need to be installed on the top of the tank? I'd feel more comfortable if the fuel lines were not inside the trunk.
I'm thinking I'll have two options:
1. Mount the existing tank below the trunk. Weld a flat piece of sheet metal to cover the opening on the left. The hump on the right with the flange is around 6 inches high - I can't drop the tank that low. Weld in a hump/box large enough to cover that portion. Find a way to route the fuel filler hose through the trunk.
2. Scrap the existing tank/pump setup. Cost is certainly a factor, but not over safety. Any tank suggestions if I go this route - I'd very much like to use the existing Mustang pump/connections if possible.
Thanks in advance!
