What is it? and how does it work?

Hi,
EGR = exhaust gas recirculation valve. It's used to allow a portion of the exhaust gases to be routed back into the combustion chamber to be re-burnt, resulting in lower emissions & a cooler more complete burn. Rich

thanks..if the EGR valve is bad can that make a engine run rich or anything?

It won't be rich, atleast not enough to notice, but you may find the engine more prone to pinging than before.

egr valve
If the egr valve is stick open it will cause,
rough idling, a vacuum leak, & hesitation. if stuck closed it can cause knocking (pinging) Rich Last edited by richard stewart 3rd; 08-19-2008 at 11:29 AM. Reason: spelling
