El Camino/ neutral safety switch

Hey Gang
I have a 72 El Camino that I am changing from auto column shift, to a floor shift with console. The neutral safety switch that was on the column had three sets of prongs for three sets of wires to attached to. One of those sets was two pink wires. On a floor shift the neutral safety switch is on the shifter in the console but the neutral safety switch ( which is a different part number and style) has prongs for only two sets of wires. It eliminates the two pink wires. What are those two wires for? I have a Chevelle / El Camino wiring book on order but it could take a while. I have the dash out and I want to know if I can just tape them up out of the way or I need to connect them someplace else...........thank you .......jerry

Not sure, but the reverse light switch is built into a lot of neutral switches. I believe that this may be what those other connections are for. I should remember, I had a 68.

That is correct......one of the sets is the backup lights and the other is the circuit that keeps you from starting the car while in a gear. Still not sure what the third (double pink) set was for...........jerry

According to the schematic:

Terminal# 1: Wires are 18B and 18Y/DBL/B. Labeled "Seat Belt Switch"

Terminal# 2: Wires are 20P and 20LG. Labeled "Back up Light Switch"

Terminal# 3: Wires are 2 12PPL. Labeled "Neutral Safety Switch"

Hope this helps.

I think you might have nailed it. I disconnected the seatbelt sensors when I installed a new three point harness system. That is the only electrical system that is not working on the Camino........thanks.........jerry
