Attached is an electric brake booster on a hot rod I just bought and brakes are not working very well as it takes a lot of pedal pressure to make car stop, fluid is good, have no experience with this setup. Anyone recognize this mfg and thoughts on what might be the problem? Thanks for your help.
That looks like a line lock to me, not a booster.
If it is a line lock then it will not assist with pedal presser.
What it does is when you push the brake pedal down hard and you push a button that should be some where in the car. While holding the button you let off the brake and presser will be applied to the front wheels until you release the button.
Thanks Dave. Will have to research more as there is no button to push that I have been made aware of and cant find one. Will let you know what I find. Thanks again.
The finned item in the pics is a Hurst Line-Loc, used by drag racers.
Press brake pedal and hold, press button down on shifter (or wherever it is mounted, dash, steering wheel spoke) and hold,.... release brake pedal and either front or rear brakes are released but the others held until button is released.
Typically used to hold front brakes on while releasing rear brakes for the burnout to heat the tires.
Will be two wires on the Line-Loc, one grounded and one to a 12V+ button or switch somewhere.
If not being used, it is just an open passage for fluid, does not change braking force or pedal pressure at all.
What vehicle is this on??, you may have a pedal linkage in wrong hole for manual vs power brakes, or some other similar issue.
Not sure how safe those aluminum AN fittings are! I'd replace the whole system after seeing these pix, but you could prolly get by replacing the aluminum fittings with stainless steel...
Thanks for response Eric, it is on a 32 Pontiac I bought. Has no brake pedal at all till completely pressed hard. Will disconnect unit and go from there. Thanks again.
