I have a signal blade perma-cool electric fan on a 350 chevy. The problem i have is that when I park, the fan is still running to cool the engine and it always drains the battery down. I have a thermostat installed which kicks the fan on at a certain temp. I also have a toogle switch to manually turn the fan on, however, because of the thermostat, I cannot manually turn it off. Any suggestions?

At what temperature does the fan come on? Do you have any control with the thermostat set up? Are you saying that the fan does not shut off until the battery drains down, or does it eventually shut off on its own?

No control over the thermostat. I'm not sure what temp it's set for. I ordered it from summit. I believe it's running until the battery is drained.

If you want to keep the feature of manual on using one switch change the switch to a double pole double throw center off and wire one side in between the t-stat power and the t-stat . This will give you up manual center all off down t-stat controlled .

Is it a thermostat sending unit, or is it a control box with the wire that goes to the radiator for temperature pick up?

Thermostat sending unit. I'm considering just removing the sending unit and going strictly with the manual control. Do you think that may be a bad idea? Well, i have to run to the store right quick with my wife, but I appreciate any advice you can give me. I've had to recharge my battery like five times. This is'nt a daily driver so it's no big deal, just a hassle.

Agree with justold.
Yes, "sounds like" the sending unit is not shutting down the circuit. I would go to a three position switch as justold stated, and replace the thermostat sending unit.
To answer your other question, I feel it is o.k. to run just a manual on/off switch. I did this as well, some people disagree, "what if you forget to turn them on?" I have mine set up to turn on the water pump and the fans.

Another way to skin the cat would be to rewire the hot wire to your thermostat off of a "hot on run" circuit off your ignition switch. That way, when you turn off the ignition there will be no juice to the fan...but when you start up the car you won't have to worry about turning on the fan because the t-stat will flip it on at the designated temperature.
